Erotic template / turn-ons
Your erotic template is the specific pattern of what reliably turns you on. Not a vague preference like „I like it slow“, but the actual ingredients: the context you need, the dynamic between you, the kind of sensation, the story running underneath.
Most people can name their partner’s coffee order faster than their own template, because nobody ever asked them to look. It is not something you get taught. You are supposed to somehow know, and then somehow communicate it, without ever having put it into words for yourself.
What it is made of
Four things tend to show up. Context: what has to be true for you to arrive, whether that is a locked door, no calendar the next morning, or the sense that nothing is expected of you. Dynamic: who is doing what to whom, who leads, who is being looked at. Sensation: what your body actually likes, which is usually more specific and less obvious than people assume. And story: the frame that makes it mean something, being wanted, being taken care of, being allowed.
Why naming it changes things
When two people know their own ingredients, sex stops being a guessing game with a scoreboard. You are no longer running a generic script and hoping. You are building something that belongs to the two of you, and that is a different experience from good technique.
The uncomfortable part is going first. Saying „this is what works for me“ out loud feels riskier than it is, especially after years together, when you think you should already know each other. Long-term partners are often the most surprised.
If you want a starting point: think of three times sex was genuinely great, not just fine. Look for what those three had in common. That thread is usually the template, and it is rarely what people expect.

A note on who this is for: we write in terms of couples and partners for simplicity, but this is for every gender, orientation, and relationship form, and for you and whoever you love.
